Black Skull offers a protein snacking experience you won’t find anywhere else in Whey Crunch

Black Skull Whey Crunch Review

Whey Crunch is a unique protein snack from Black Skull in Brazil, coming to market earlier this year in a variety of delicious flavors, including Hazelnut Cream, Dulce de leche, Dream Milk, and White Chocolate Lemon Cream. The build of the product is not like anything you can get here in the US or even the UK and Europe. It is based around the traditional South American treat, Alfajores, where you get two crumbly biscuits or cookies, a sweet filling in between them, and all wrapped in chocolate.

We recently tried a bunch of protein treats in that Alfajores format in Brazil, including Black Skull’s Whey Crunch, and we have been dying to share the experience. The nutrition of the product isn’t overly high in protein at 10g a piece alongside 18g of carbohydrates, only 2g of sugar, 12g of fat, and 227 calories. That protein-to-calorie ratio is not great, far from it, as those calories are usually what come with 20g of protein; however, with all of that in mind, we’re pleased to tell you the taste is worth it.

Review

We got our hands on a bunch of Black Skull’s Dream Milk flavor of the Whey Crunch protein Alfajores, and while that flavor may not sound overly exciting, we’ve had to hold ourselves back from grabbing another after finishing one. This is, of course, a protein snack, and typically, when you have that variable in the mix, you expect there to be some sort of disruption in taste or texture. Black Skull’s innovation is better than the traditional Alfajores we’ve had, absolutely crushing every area possible.

The cookie layers inside Whey Crunch from Black Skull feel like actual cookies, crumbling with the smallest of bites, and there is no leftover clumping or dryness as we’ve seen in other crumbly functional foods. The wholesome taste of the biscuit layers is on point, but that’s not all. On the outside, you get a thin albeit rich milk chocolate, and right in the center is the crown jewel that kills it for Whey Crunch in a thick, sweet and creamy milky filling, combining with everything else for an unforgettable flavor.

Black Skull Whey Crunch Review

The crumbliness of Black Skull’s Whey Crunch and milk chocolate outer would usually be enough to give a protein snack a big tick and call it a success. The inside of the product puts it over the top and makes for a better-for-you treat that you won’t want to put down and genuinely need to try if you’re a functional connoisseur. The sweet milk center is incredibly thick, thicker than any other part of the product, and that is what makes it so addictive and unlike anything else we’ve seen in the functional space.

Summary

Knowing how well Black Skull hits it out of the park in the Dream Milk flavor of Whey Crunch, it’d be safe to say the others taste just as good, especially Dulce de leche, as it’s a hugely popular dessert in the brand’s home country of Brazil, so it knows how to make it taste. Once again, Whey Crunch is unlike anything else we’ve had in the functional food industry; it does come with an unfavorable nutrition profile in 10g of protein and a touch over 200 calories, although trust us when we say it’s worth it.
