Clear protein powder has become a subcategory all on its own, as while the concept has been around for well over a decade thanks to the likes of Isopure and other early innovators, it’s only in the last few years that it has exploded. Internationally, sports nutrition companies have been pushing the idea of clear and refreshing protein as much, if not more, than the US, and we have another example of that coming from Nutritech in South Africa.
Nutritech has introduced Clear Whey Protein Isolate, or just Clear Protein for short, although despite the name highlighting whey isolate, that’s not the only source of protein in this one. To provide its 21g of protein per serving, the brand has thrown in hydrolyzed whey isolate and hydrolyzed collagen peptides as the secondary source. There is more whey than collagen but no exact breakdown, as the supplement isn’t completely transparent.
As is the case with most clear protein powders, Nutritech’s Clear Protein is exceptionally lean, where that 21g of protein doesn’t come with any carbohydrates or fat, so all of the calories are from protein. Regarding flavor, the brand has stayed true to the format and made only fruity options in Peach Ice Tea and Watermelon. Unfortunately, you won’t be saving money on the innovation as it only comes in a very small 1.1lb tub of 20 servings or 16 if you want to upsize your servings and get the more traditional 25g of protein.
