Gourmet protein brand Chef Whey tries its hand at a high protein alfajor

Chef Whey Protein Alfajor

An alfajorĀ is a decadent dessert hugely popular in South America, especially Brazil, where you get multiple layers of cookie and filling, typically covered in a decadent layer of flavor. Some creative, functional food companies have already taken the format and given it a health and nutrition twist, with things like high-protein and low-sugar alfajores. Black Skull has its take on the snack with Whey Crunch, which is an absolutely amazing protein snack that, dare we say, is almost impossible not to enjoy.

The popular nutrition and protein company Chef Whey has taken it upon itself to do similar, introducing the straightforwardly named Alfajor, although we’ll refer to it as Protein Alfajor as that is more fitting for what it is. The brand known for its delicious protein powder and ready-to-drink protein beverages has brought its talents to the dessert, squeezing a fair 9g of protein into a 55g alfajor. The carbohydrates come in at 19g with 5g of that sugar, high fat at 17g, and a hefty calorie count of 255.

The macro balance is nothing like your standard protein bar but the eating experience more than makes up for the sacrifice. Chef Whey’s Protein Alfajor features a traditional alfajor build with crumbly cookies, a smooth flavorful filling, and a coating of decadent chocolate. There are two flavors available for the functional innovation to start: one for chocolate lovers in Hazelnut Cream covered in milk chocolate, and the other takes a sweeter route in White Coconut Cream with coconut and white chocolate.
