Alongside Applied Nutrition and AN Performance’s pre-workout Pre, launched exclusively at The Vitamin Shoppe in a whole new family of supplements, is a protein powder by the name of Hybrid Protein. The title comes from the fact that the brand utilizes two groups of protein with, whey in whey isolate and concentrate, and milk protein isolate. Together, they provide a lean and nutritious set of macros, as you’d from a quality protein powder, and to make it that extra bit different, it’s all transparent.
The nutrition profile of AN Performance’s Hybrid Protein starts with 23g of protein, then you get 3g of carbohydrates, none of that sugar, half a gram of fat, and a clean 100 calories. If you’re more used to macros with the protein at 25g, you can bump up your serving to 31.5g, which will also moves the carbs, fat, and calories, although only by very minimal amounts.
We did say the formula in Hybrid Protein is completely transparent, as AN Performance says that 50% of the protein you get per serving is from high-quality whey isolate, then 25% from whey concentrate, and the remaining quarter from milk isolate. This is an important feature, as despite it being around for a while and letting you know you are getting plenty of isolate from its blend and not a sprinkling, there are very few that actually do this, JYM, Ghost, and Grenade being some of the first.
You will pay a bit of a premium for AN Performance’s Hybrid Protein, which, like the rest of the supplements in this particular family, is exclusive to The Vitamin Shoppe. The cost of the whey and milk-powered protein powder is $49.99 for a 1.6lb bag, enough for 25 servings or probably closer to 23 if you want the traditional 25g of protein. In terms of flavors, Hybrid Protein has debuted in two of the category’s most traditional tastes adn those are Chocolate and Vanilla.
