This past weekend, one of the most historic events of Mr. Olympia competitions took place, with the 60th edition, and it fittingly returned to its home in Las Vegas. There were many stories going into the event regarding legacies, returning champions, past champions looking to reclaim their title, and several other paths around the main event. The open class has a lot of eyes, with Derek Lunsford attempting to become a two-time champion and beat out fellow Evogen athlete and past winner Hadi Choopan.
In a huge upset, the rising bodybuilding star Samson Dauda from Fouad Abiad’s powerhouse supplement company Hosstile jumped over both Derek Lunsford and Hadi Choopan to take home the prestigious title. In other categories at this year’s Mr. Olympia competition, Raw Nutrition’s Chris Bumstead successfully defended his crown. He grabbed the double hattrick, becoming a six-time Classic Olympia winner, but bittersweetly, Bumstead announced he is hanging up the trunks and retiring.
Several other popular categories at the Mr. Olympia saw repeat champions, like Classic, with Keone Pearson, also known as Keone Prodigy, beating out Shaun Clarida to win his second 212 Olympia title; the legendary Andrea Shaw from the star-studded Mutant roster dominantly became a five-time champion; and Myprotein’s Ryan Terry successful repeated his crown in the Physique division. It was an exciting contest, filled with twists, turns, and supplement company-supported competitors; the next stop is the Arnold Sports Festival, where Samson Dauda has confirmed he’ll be back in action.
