Becoming available at Walmart is not as simple as sending the retailer your catalog and having that promptly followed by a purchase order for a spot in each of its 1,000s of stores. It is a lengthy process just to be in the position to pitch your brand and product, and even then, you’ll want to go through weeks of preparation around what the retailer looks for and what would work. There is, however, something Walmart hosts every year that gives brands the opportunity to speed up the process in its Open Call Event.
The 2024 edition of Walmart’s Open Call Event is the 11th time the retail giant has presented companies with this unique opportunity; where true to its name, it puts out an open call to entrepreneurs and businesses to potentially be stocked in-store and online at Walmart and Sam’s Club. The Open Call is available exclusively to brands and products that are made, grown, or produced in the US, and that could include sports nutrition, functional food, and energy drink companies like we share day in and day out.
The way it all works is you submit an application through the Open Call Event form anytime up until a week from Monday, July 15th. A select number of entrepreneurs and businesses will then be notified on the 20th of August, about a month after submissions close, that they’ve been chosen and invited to pitch Walmart in an open call. If you’re a brand, this could lead to your supplements, better-for-you snacks, and many other health and nutrition items, to hit shelves in Walmart and Sam’s Club as well as their websites.
