On Sunday of next week for National Ice Cream Day, the frozen functional food company Enlightened is celebrating things a little differently. For the day and to show its support for local businesses across the country, the brand is taking down its online store. In place of that, Enlightened will have ways fans can support independently owned ice cream shops with a showcase of more than 500 different locations.
Enlightened is calling the initiative the #ShopLocal campaign, and it’ll be supporting local businesses with more than just an online store redirect. Anyone that posts something supporting an independent ice cream shop, whether it be a review or purchase, and uses the hashtag #ShopLocal as well as @eatenlightened, the brand will donate $1 to the James Beard Foundation’s Open for Good initiative, up to maximum of $15,000.
“Not only are ice cream shops an important part of America’s history, but they’re also part of Enlightened’s history. My great-grandparents immigrated to New York City, where they opened a local candy shop specializing in coffee ice cream that started my family’s life in America. If it wasn’t for my great-grandpa Willie’s ice cream, we wouldn’t be where we are today.” – Enlightened CEO Michael Shoretz.
The donation is geared towards helping independent restaurants get through the COVID-19 crisis. Enlightened won’t just be supporting all of this for National Ice Cream Day either, but the entire week, from Monday the 12th through to Sunday the 19th. You can read more about the brand’s campaign in its official press release and follow along on social media to take part and support its week-long Ice Cream Day.
