Major UK supermarkets ban the sale of energy drinks to kids under 16

energy drinks banned

Over in the UK a new rule has been introduced banning the sale of energy drinks to kids under the age of 16. Just to make it clear, the rule isn’t a law or anything, but a voluntary ban that a lot of major supermarkets are putting into place.

The list of places banning the sale of energy drinks includes Tesco, the Co-op, Asda, Waitrose, and more recently Boots. There is also a condition to the energy drink ban as it doesn’t actually rule out every caffeinated beverage on the market.

According to BBC News, the rule applies to drinks containing over 150mg of caffeine per liter. That does, of course, mean the likes of Monster Ultra are out of the question, which has around 150mg of caffeine per 500ml can, working out to 300mg per liter.
