Max Crispy Treat Review: Sweet chocolate but a bit dense

Max Crispy Treat Review

This past year we saw the release of quite a few Rice Krispie style protein bars, some being impressive and some not so much. The most recent product to fall into that area of the market is Max Effort Muscle’s protein-packed snack, the Max Crispy Treat.

Seeing as the Max Crispy Treat is Max Effort Muscle’s first edible release we knew we had to give it a try, even more so as it doesn’t look like any of the other Rice Krispie style bars out there. Like no doubt many of the brand’s fans, we got in on the bar’s introductory deal where Max Effort Muscle was offering a heavy 30% off a tube of 12 bars.

Nutrition profile

The nutrition numbers behind a single bar of the Max Crispy Treat are about the same as most of its competitors. Each 60g bar provides the usual 20g of protein primarily from a blend of whey isolate and concentrate, 27g of carbohydrates with 3g of that fiber and 9g sugar, 5g of fat (3g saturated), for a total of 220 calories.

Build and taste

As soon as you take the Max Crispy Treat out of its wrapper you’ll notice it doesn’t look like any protein bar you’ve seen before. Not only does its Rice Krispie style make it stand out, but its overall build is something else, with a solid layer of chocolate on the bottom, a rice crispy middle, and chocolate squiggles along the top.

Not too surprisingly the solid chocolate really makes the Max Crispy Treat a sweet chocolate driven snack. The rice crispy body doesn’t, unfortunately, bring much to the table being a bit doughy and dry at times, and not having the softest, crispy consistency.

The chocolate does do its best to have a strong flavor impact right from the start; however, it does tend to fade as the chocolate layers mix with the thick rice crispy center.

Summary

All together Max Effort Muscle’s first protein bar outing isn’t half bad. The chocolate almost completely makes up for the somewhat dense rice crispy core, resulting in a relatively enjoyable protein snack. It would be nice to see a smoother consistency in the bar as if it wasn’t so dense and doughy it would be quite the Rice Krispie style competitor.
