We’ve posted a lot about the Dough Bar and its delicious looking doughnuts; however, we were always curious about how well they actually taste. Recently we decided to purchase a handful to find out if they are as delicious as they look and in short, the doughnuts are game changing.
The doughnut
The Dough Bar has a truly revolutionary protein snack on its hands, that even without the incredibly tasty glazes and toppings is quite delicious. The actual doughnuts themselves that are at the heart of the product meet your taste buds right in the middle. They don’t taste like real fluffy doughnuts, but they also don’t taste like 11g of protein and 150 calories.
The doughnut dough has an amazing softness to it that your bite has no trouble gliding through. It is a little denser than a regular doughnut, but nowhere near as much as you’d think. You can also throw it in the microwave for a short amount of time for maximum softness, and you’ll definitely feel like you’re cheating with twice as many calories.
Glaze and toppings
As for the Dough Bar’s glaze and toppings, it is just the cherry on top of the doughnuts. The four flavors we got in our JunkBanter Packs were Reese’s with Mini PB Cups, Nutella with Kit Kat Crumbles, Cinnamon with Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Cookie Monster with Chips Ahoy and Oreos.
The glaze that you spread on top of the doughnuts is what adds the most flavor to the experience, and also an extra 50 calories in combination with the toppings. It quickly masks the minuscule protein snack likeness the doughnut has, pushing the product’s flavor beyond anything you’d expect.
The various glazes do have slightly different tastes to them but mixed with the doughnut they act mostly as sweeteners. It makes it quite difficult to tell them all apart or determine what kind of taste they bring, however with all the flavor that comes with each bite; you’re not going to mind.
Revolutionary protein snack
The Dough Bar doughnuts are a must try for any fitness enthusiast that can fit them into their diets. With 150 calories per doughnut or around 200 with their unique glaze and toppings, they are relatively easy to accommodate and unbelievably satisfying. They are relatively pricey for a protein snack, costing as low as $3.25 each or $2.75 plain at doughbardoughnuts.com, but they are indeed worth every center.
