One of the most exciting supplement releases so far this year come from Scivation with its packed pre-workout Quake. The product managed to capture attention from all over the place, which is understandable as it is the brand’s first pre-workout in years and it uses a name longtime Scivation fans may remember from back in the day. We’ve now done a full hands-on review of the supplement, after taking it for a spin at its full on, 26g maximum serving.
Fully dosed formula
The formula behind Scivation’s Quake doesn’t feature anything overly new, in fact, a lot of its ingredients are fairly common. The reason the product is so interesting is that it features those ingredients at massive doses, similar to the likes of Pre Jym, Nutrex Outlift, and Muscle Sport’s Rhino Black.
A few highlights from the Quake label include 1.5g of NO3-T arginine nitrate, 3g of tyrosine, a massive 6g of the pump powering citrulline, and the PeakO2 performance blend at its usual 2g. The supplement also features BCAAs at the same dose they’re at in Scivation’s famous Xtend BCAAs, making Quake a bit of a two in one type pre-workout.
Starts out slow
Going into our first run with Scivation Quake we honestly didn’t expect too much from the pre-workout, especially compared to all of the DMHA formulas dominating the market right now. 20 minutes after throwing back a full two scoop serving of the product we felt our expectations were right, as it didn’t seem to be anything spectacular.
Despite how it initially appears, as you progress through your Quake workout, the supplement takes a slow, but impressive turn. The energy does eventually come over you, filling your body with a natural like energetic feeling. Then comes a small amount of focus, that’s hard to tell whether it’s just the energy making you feel good, or you’ve actually got a mental edge. It is however neither the energy nor focus where Quake takes its dramatic turn.
Performance powerhouse
As you move through your workout with Quake, you’ll start to notice that even though you may not feel stronger than ever before, you are performing like it. The product has this insane ability to make you feel comfortable at weight and reps that aren’t typically comfortable. You’ll find you can slap on an extra plate, drop the pin down a few levels, or reach for a heavier dumbbell on a lot of exercises.
The mild energy and light focus end up being just enough to make sure you hit the majority of your exercises with the right amount of fuel and confidence. The performance side of Quake then does the rest, encouraging you to lift and rep more and more by increasing your strength. You’ll also realize that despite pushing your limits in a variety of ways, Quake doesn’t let the extra work exhaust you or tire you out too quickly.
The Scivation pre-workout has a real endurance supporting side that truly comes in handy when you’re taking things up a notch with more demanding exercises. It helps you handle multiple, strong sets of the likes of squats, deadlifts, and bench press, a lot better than you’d expect. You won’t find yourself fading, in fact, if anything you’ll continue to perform stronger and better as the sets go on and you push throughout your workout.
2-in-1 BCAA pre-workout
As mentioned earlier, Scivation Quake is technically a two in one type pre-workout thanks to its inclusion of 7g of BCAAs. If you’re like a lot of people and regularly use BCAAs intra-workout for better recovery and muscle building, Quake does save you from using a serving of whatever your go to BCAA is. The supplement packs 7g of the popular ingredient, 2g more than the typical 5g dose, although a little short if you’re a fan of larger amounts like the 10g of BCAAs in Core ABC.
Powerful performance competitor
Quake is a powerful pre-workout that delivers on par with the best performance and endurance experiences we’ve ever had. It doesn’t come through with an overly intense combination of energy and focus, at least compared to what else is out there. But it’s still enough to get you going and put you in the position to want to take advantage of the product’s limit pushing ability.
If you’re a fan of some of the performance pre-workouts we talked about earlier – Pre Jym, Nutrex Outlift, and Muscle Sport’s Rhino Black – Scivation Quake is well worth a run. It is relatively expensive; however, when you take into consideration the 7g of BCAAs it has per maximum serving, it’s cost becomes a bit more reasonable. Quake does also come in a smaller ten serving size, giving you the chance to test it in a number of workouts before going all in on a full 20 serving tub.
