After working out with it for a good couple of weeks, we feel we’ve used GN Labs latest stimulant pre-workout The Evil, enough to fairly review it. The supplement has turned out to be quite the powerful experience, which was kind of expected when we first saw it at this year’s FIBO expo.
Weigh your servings
Before we get into how The Evil performs in the gym we have to bring up the serving issue with this one. If you missed our post from a week or so ago, we broke down how to use the product properly, because the scoop we got in our tub massively threw off how much we were actually using.
Basically, you need to measure your servings of GN Labs’ The Evil on some scales. One scoop is meant to weigh 5g, however a level scoop for us measured in at around 7g, so really when we did three level scoops, we were getting more than the supplement’s maximum of four scoops. That maximum though is what today’s review is based on, as that seemed to give the best performance.
Game on feeling
While The Evil does only have 200mg of caffeine per three scoops, working out to around 266mg per maximum of four scoops, the pre-workout does in fact kick in pretty hard. It takes the usual 10 to 20 minutes to hit after throwing it back, and once that happens it is a truly game on type feeling.
Right from the kick, you get a nice smooth, but intense flow of energy, mixed with a five-star dose of focus. The mental effect is actually a little stronger than the energy, turning you into a very driven kind of animal for the entire length of your workout. 20 or so minutes after it initially hits the energy does die down a bit, although the focus stays on point and becomes more noticeable with the faded energy.
Nice pump, insane performance
Being a true all around performer, The Evil does pack more than just energy and focus. The stimulant pre-workout also has a nice, dense pump to it as well as an impressive performance enhancing ability. The pump certainly isn’t the best we’ve experienced in a pre-workout, but it is noticeable enough to say The Evil helps out in that department.
As for the impressive performance enhancing ability of the GN Labs product, you’ll notice this most when working with intense sets involving short rests and heavy weights. What happens is after you’ve knocked out a fairly demanding set and feel physically exhausted, it takes very little time for your body to get back to 100% and be ready to go again.
The Evil’s performance effect is quite unique as it’ll have you unnaturally pumping through hard and heavy sets like never before. The most interesting thing is as mentioned, you will still feel quite puffed or exhausted after you push yourself, but that exhaustion just seems to disappear rather quickly. We did notice this isn’t an effect that’s too obvious with less demanding and/or smaller muscle exercises, it really needs to be something that’ll drain you.
Gag-worthy taste
With so much going for the GN Labs supplement you might be wondering, are there any downsides to it outside of the scoop serving issue? The answer to that is yes, as this is easily one of the worst tasting pre-workout’s we’ve ever had. The one Exotic Fruits flavor is right up there with the likes of Unstoppable V2 and the original DVST8 White Cut.
Everyone’s taste buds are different, so you may very well like The Evil, but for us it is gag-worthy and we don’t usually care at all about how something tastes. It has a horrible bitter, sour flavor to it that really hangs in your stomach and throat. The strange thing is the powder doesn’t smell too bad, however after you’ve had it once the smell immediately puts you off by association.
Complete and powerful
Overall GN Labs The Evil is an incredible pre-workout, one that rivals some of the best on the market. The drive enhancing focus and unstoppable like performance are the biggest highlights of the product, with the energy and mild pump also doing enough to make it a complete pre-workout experience.
The flavor is definitely a big disappointment, although as bad as it tastes, The Evil’s effects are worth it. We would suggest diluting it as much as you can as it does help lessen the awful aftertaste, or if that doesn’t work try mixing it with some kind of beverage.
