Maple Buttermilk Pancake Myofeed review: Purus gets as close as it can

maple buttermilk pancake myofeed review

Maple Buttermilk Pancake was Purus Labs’ first addition to the menu of its protein powder Myofeed, that was originally launched exclusively through Suppz. The exclusivity did only last two weeks, with the flavor now available in all of the brand’s stockists. The reason we’re quickly going over the history of Maple Buttermilk Pancake Myofeed is because we actually have the flavor in for review today. While we haven’t tried any of the supplement’s other options, we figured its most interesting sounding flavor would be a great place to start.

Most Myofeed fans will already know this but if you haven’t had the Purus Labs protein before, in terms of consistency it is quite light. Unlike a number of others a scoop of Myofeed won’t overly thicken 6 to 8oz of water, although you can of course concentrate it a little more if that’s what you prefer. Our preferred amount was around 4 to 6oz of water to a single scoop, as anything more and the water really starts to play with the taste, and anything less and it just becomes thicker with no real increase in flavor.

Moving on to the actual taste of Maple Buttermilk Pancake Myofeed, Purus Lab does in fact make a pretty good attempt. We can’t quite say the brand nailed the flavor, but it definitely has a taste that you can somewhat relate to its title.

It all starts with that first sip that almost gives you nothing but the idea of maple syrup. The flavor squeezes in more than enough sweetness to convince you that it’s maple, and mixed with the right amount of water does also last longer than you need to enjoy it. As the maple moves on though you get to the second half of the flavor, which is where Maple Buttermilk Pancake doesn’t entirely follow through on its name.

The unique Myofeed flavor does have a solid creamy back-end, slightly pointing you in the direction pancake, however most of us feel it is more of a vanilla. When diluted by a good amount of water it does become too weak to tell, but when taken slowly with the perfect range of 4 to 6oz you can taste the fading of the maple into vanilla. While on occasions the combination can get you thinking of Maple Pancake, it is clearly quite a way off Maple Buttermilk Pancake.

Overall Purus Labs does a pretty good job with Maple Buttermilk Pancake Myofeed. While it doesn’t come through 100% on the complex flavor, it gets pretty close. The product is certainly convincing in the maple department, however as mentioned it does have trouble in the second half with the Buttermilk Pancake being more like a vanilla cake. With that said, if you are a maple fan or even just after a different kind of flavor, you may still want to give it a go. Despite not being able to deliver on its entire title, Maple Buttermilk Pancake is an interesting flavor and definitely doesn’t taste like any other protein out there.
