When Alpha Designs first unveiled its high-end supplement shaker, the Alpha Bottle, its design quickly caught our attention. Back when we first saw it though it was just a concept, however late last month the brand did finally launch the product. We were lucky enough to get our hands on a few Alpha Bottles, and over the past few days have been using them for all the usual shaker jobs to bring you today’s Alpha Bottle review.
Stronger than your average shaker
While there isn’t usually a lot to say about a supplement shaker, the minute you start using the Alpha Bottle a lot of things come to mind. The first thing we picked up on is the build of the product. It may not sound like an overly important highlight, but the Alpha Bottle’s plastic just feels a lot stronger than any of our other shakers. It is also quite a slim bottle, which helps add to its strong, compact feel. We didn’t actually test its strength by throwing it against a wall or anything, although when you firmly hold it in your hand you do get the sense it will take a lot of force to crack or damage it.
Leak proof lid and cap
The next big Alpha Bottle feature we have to bring up is its cap. Much like the strength of the cup, a cap doesn’t sound like something worth highlighting. Once you put the product to use however you do start to wonder why more companies don’t opt for the comfort and security of a screw on top. While the Alpha Bottle isn’t the first shaker we’ve come across with a screw cap, it is the first we’ve used that has a quality build to it. Unlike others we’ve had experience with, the Alpha Bottle’s cap takes a few rotations to be completely on. The tight fit not only makes you believe the top is never coming off, but it also gives you confidence that even over time it’s not going to leak.
We should also mention that the Alpha Bottle’s lid is just as secure as its cap. It doesn’t require as many turns as the cap to lock into place, although its rubber seal hidden away on the inside does ensure leaks won’t be an issue. We did give it the vigorous shake test across a number of days, and as you’d imagine we didn’t see a drop outside the shaker. The bigger challenge of course is will it stand the test of time. While we won’t know the answer to that for another few months, we will say its strong build definitely gives us more faith than any other shaker out there.
Creative mixer, but not necessary
The last feature we’d like to touch on is the Alpha Bottle’s grill. The product has a rather unique grill or mixer, with an inverted dome that doesn’t have anywhere near as many lines running through it as most other shaker grills. Despite having a very different design, the Alpha Bottle’s grill does the job, mixing up a shake as good as you’d expect. With that said, usually we do throw out the grill, ball, or whatever a brand puts inside its shaker, as they tend to be more annoying than useful.
In the case of the Alpha Bottle, at first we kept the mixer inside as it didn’t seem to get in the way, and sat too perfectly in the shaker to want to remove. After a few days however we did notice on occasions powder would get stuck between the grill and cup. It wasn’t exactly a major problem, as all it took to solve was taking the mixer out of the Alpha Bottle and rinsing it. Regardless of how easy the issue is to fix, it did happen enough for us to prefer using the shaker without it.
Alpha Bottle raises the bar
Overall we are actually quite surprised by how awesome the Alpha Bottle is. While it is just a shaker, when you add together all its little features like the strong textured bottle, secure leak free lid and cap, as well as its curved base. You quickly realize the Alpha Bottle is an improvement in all the areas you usually complain about with a shaker. At £7.99 a piece all we can say is it’s worth every dollar, as the Alpha Bottle is both a pleasure to use and feels like it will make your investment last.
