We all love high protein snacks just as much as the next gym rat. They’re the closest thing you get to a cheat meal without exactly cheating, and despite their sometimes fake taste, compared to the likes of chicken and rice they’re a dream. When Myprotein’s delicious looking Protein Cookie landed in our laps, not only were we thinking they will make for a great review but also a treat to try. Of all the flavors the brand have available, chocolate mint, double chocolate chip, chocolate orange and white almond, we feel we got the best of the group with double chocolate chip. After a week of going through a whole box of 12 we’ve got our Myprotein Cookie review here for you today to help you decide whether or not they’re something you may be interested in.
Firstly we have to state that we’ve only ever had one or two protein cookies before. That being said there is a lot more to Myprotein’s Cookie compared to the others on the market. Even if you want to compare the product to other high protein snacks, the Myprotein Cookie still has something to make it stand out. The thing we’re getting at is of course what makes a healthy treat healthy and that is the item’s macros.
Unlike most high protein products the Myprotein Cookie could almost count as a meal depending on your diet. If you’re looking for something to get you to your protein total while staying good in carbohydrates, fat and calories, then this one is worth looking into. Before getting into the Myprotein Cookie’s taste you may already be sold on the fact that it packs 37.5g of protein. That number combined with 20g of carbohydrates (7g sugar, 1g fiber) and 10g of fat (4g saturated) quickly makes you realize how much of a beast the Myprotein Cookie really is. For those after a calorie count the snack packs a total of 320, which compared to the likes of the incredibly popular Quest Bar and its macros means you’re getting less calories per gram of protein. You can check out the supplement’s complete facts panel on the brand’s website, leaving us to arguably the most important part, how good does the Myprotein Cookie taste?
Coming from a block of chocolate or candy bar all protein treats are going to taste a bit off. If however you know how these things are the Myprotein Cookie is going to be something you may want to sample. Once you initially bite into the 75g cookie you’ll get the sense that it’s more like a combination of a bar and cookie. It doesn’t have that signature cookie crunch more of a thick dense dough consistency. Regardless of whatever it reminds you of, the density of it mixed with the chocolate and occasional chunky chocolate chip makes for an awesome first impression. Due to it being quite thick it doesn’t get chewed through too quick however that only makes it all the more enjoyable.
After that initial bite we found it is best to take another one a couple seconds before the moment you decide to swallow. As incredible as the consistency, relatively light chocolate flavor and chocolate chunks make the Myprotein Cookie. The combination does die down when it all thins out in your mouth. It’s around the time you decide to swallow you get that fake taste that brings you right back into reality and reminds you you’re not eating a cookie, cake or candy bar. It doesn’t in anyway ruin the Myprotein Cookie, but it is definitely a change in taste you’ll notice. To keep the dream alive we found it’s best to just simply keep on eating, avoiding the sometimes sour aftertaste. While it does mean you’ll get through the cookie reasonably fast. Once you’ve experience that difference in flavor, like us you’ll do anything to keep that initial taste going.
Myprotein Cookie review final words
While the Myprotein Cookie doesn’t quite have that realistic candy bar chocolate some protein bars have, or that flavor endurance we’ve come to enjoy in a select few. It brings together a unique experience of a protein bar and cookie. The combination isn’t something you see in any other product, not to mention the fact that 95% of the time you’re eating the Myprotein Cookie it tastes amazing. The snack also has chocolate chunks that make eating the cookie a bumpy ride, and its macros are right up there with some of the best including a protein count higher than almost every healthy treat out there.
To finally seal the deal we have to highlight the price of the Myprotein Cookie. Usually we don’t mention cost in reviews, however on this occasion we do think it’s important. The usual price on the cookie which can be seen on Myprotein’s own website is $24.99 for a box of 12. The catch there is that cost per piece is almost competitive with your average protein bar. That being said each cookie does pack 37.5g of protein, making the Myprotein Cookie both a delicious and cost effective choice.
