Grenade announced their Reload: Protein Flapjacks a couple of months ago. The supplement’s first mention didn’t come with much information apart from the fact that it was going to be some sort of on-the-go product. After a number of weeks the brand drip fed fans information and unveiled what has turned out to be a very unique supplement. It is a protein snack, however it’s heavy oat base and flavoring. Transform it into one of those products you are going to have to try at least once in your lifetime.
While Reload does only pack 15g of protein per bar, and a strong 30 or so grams of carbs, with around half of that sugar. Most diets shouldn’t have a problem with it. As mentioned when the facts panel was released, it would be best suited as a snack. Maybe early morning, pre, or even post-workout. For those trimming down for the stage or summer, Reload definitely won’t make your menu. However for the lucky ones who can justify consuming the supplement, you will not be disappointed.
Once you get past the not so impressive numbers, Reload is something you can definitely look forward to. It’s mixture of jumbo, rolled, and oat bran, give it that adolescent muesli bar taste. The extremely well held together oats crumble once they enter your mouth, and depending on what flavor you went with. The aroma of fused fruit or banoffee blast make it an experience for more than just one sense. As for the chocolate browning variant, if the heavy fudge smell and oat combination isn’t enough. The bar is loaded with chocolate bits that make the under 300 calorie snack, feel like a 600 calorie big mac.
Initially it is hard to get past the numbers on the wrapper, which will mostly be dependent on your diet. But once you do convince yourself it’s okay, you’re going to wish Grenade made Reload much bigger than 70g. There are plenty of great protein bars out there, and no doubt everyone has their favorite. However there is only one great tasting protein flapjack, and with it’s creative combination of contents. Grenade have shown that despite their increasing level of popularity. They are still willing to gamble on unique products instead of going with the safety of a market trend.
