If you thought Cytosport were tied up with the production of the soon to be released Monster Protein. You’ll be surprised to hear that the brand have managed to sneak out another product. Joining the range of Cytosport RTDs is a premixed protein drink called Evolve. The ready to go supplement comes with 12g of protein, 110 calories, gluten & lactose free, and is sweetened with stevia, monk fruit & cane sugar. The product is not going to be available at your regular stockists, as only a few supplement specialists like Drugstore.com and BB.com will have it. Some of the other locations that you will find Evolve at are Target, Acme, Savemart, Dominicks and similar retailers throughout the US.
While Evolve’s range of flavors and availability will give it a strong market presence. It’s cheap female directed advertising makes it a very sad little product. Just because it is a protein supplement for women it doesn’t mean that the contents need to be halved. It is something you see everyday in formulas like Fitmiss’s Delight, however that doesn’t make it alright. The Evolve RTD will no doubt taste good and be available at a price similar to others. But it only has 12g of protein, 10g less than the 11 Fl. oz Muscle Milk carton. Which Cytosport seem to be okay with not calling the men’s premixed protein.
The drafted looking packaging may not have much to say about Evolve targeting the ladies. However with lines like ‘for happy healthy busy bodies’ and ‘specifically formulated for today’s on-the-go lifestyle’ it’s shame it all gets tied in with the final sales pitch – ‘a new shake with protein and good stuff busy women need’. Evolve has been designed by Cytosport, the makers of Muscle Milk. But that in no way makes it a trustworthy product. Despite all the extra vitamins and minerals the brand promote you’ll be better off with most other premixed drinks containing 20g+ protein, or even the regular Muscle Milk RTD.
