GNC dropping its Gold Card program just after Christmas

In exactly 12 time, some pretty major changes are going to take place at the retailer GNC. According to announcements the store is going to close a bunch of locations on December 28th, then reopen the next day rebranded with a fresh look and ready to take on the new year. We don’t know too much about how the rebrand will look, but there are quite a few other slightly more exciting things that are also going to change.

As well as confirming major marketing plans for 2017 that will help get GNC’s new look out there, it’s rebrand is bringing with it a new pricing structure. Basically, when the retailer relaunches itself just after Christmas there is no longer going to be the two prices on supplements. Instead of having the one, usually lower price for Gold Card members and another for everyone else, GNC will have just the one.

The Gold Card program is being completely switched out for a different money saving, loyalty system called myGNC, which will have its own iOS and Android app. The way that’s going to work is that every dollar you spend you’ll get a loyalty point, then once you hit 150 points you get a $5 reward. It’s essentially what you get from a number of other retailers presented in a different way with $5 off $150, although we’re more used to seeing percentages like 5% off $200 at Netrition.

For those of you that may not visit GNC locations to much and actually shop online through its website, you are in for just as many changes. As you’d expect the Gold Card program is going to be dropped there as well in favor of the single pricing model. We don’t yet know if gnc.com is also in for a rebrand, however it would make sense since the retailer is aiming to have 4,464 stores rebranded for December 29th.
